You will receive 2 specimen collection trays labelled day one and day two.
Day one collection tray contains a yellow test tube, while day two collection tray holds two specimen test tubes, one yellow and one orange. The test tubes have liquid in which is a preservative that ensures the sample arrives to the laboratory as fresh as possible. The specimen test tubes have spoons attached to the underside of the lid to aid collection of the sample. Both collection trays have protective gloves to use while collecting the sample. The trays are enclosed in clear plastic sealable bags that are to be used to safely dispose of the tray once used.
The test kit will also include detailed instructions on how to carry out the test, and an envelope in which to send the test kit back to the laboratory.
If you are able to go to the toilet every second day you can submit this sample e.g. Sunday and Tuesday. Any longer than every second day you will need try and assist your body. Ensure you are drinking plenty of fluid, especially water, and exercise regularly (please ask the doctors permission if you have not exercised previously). We would also recommend Ground and soaked flax seeds as these work well for many. Extra magnesium and vitamin C can also have a laxative effect. Dr Gillian McKeith’s 24 HOUR DETOX sachets will also have the desired affect (you should be aware that this will have quite a significant affect).
The liquid varies depending on the colour of the test tube and acts both as a preservative and a mixing agent that will break the sample down ready for analysis.
Sample requirements vary for each test and the necessary patient preparation can also vary with each test. All test kits are supplied with detailed instructions on how to carry out the test and any patient’s requirements that are necessary. Failure to carry out the test according to the instructions may result in the sample being rejected.
If a sample is rejected it may be due to one or more of the following reasons:
• No test form submitted (these are sent out with every kit)
• Sample not clearly labelled with full name, date of birth and collection date
• Sample details not matching those on test request form
• Quantity of sample not sufficient
• Sample took longer than 24 hrs from posting to reach us
