Mind and Mood
The size of our brain is what differentiates us from other animals. Half of all the nutrients a fetus and young infant receives goes towards brain development so it should be of no wonder then that what you eat, and when you eat, determines your mind and mood.
Greater control of moods and energy levels can be achieved with understanding the hidden relationship between diet, nutrition and emotional and mental health. Our mental function is totally dependant on receiving a daily intake of vitamins, minerals, protein and essential fats. However if stress, poor dietary habits, irregular eating patterns or negative lifestyles are part of the picture then achieving the daily amount of nutrients can be difficult and this will result in poor emotional states.
Stress is the biggest example of this. The adrenal glands which produce stress hormones utilise many nutrients, one in particular is Magnesium. If you are stressed then the body will use up its stores of magnesium and the daily intake is often not enough to maintain the adrenals, let alone the vast array of other functions that Magnesium is involved in, so the stressed individual becomes Magnesium deficient. Magnesium deficiency can result in irritability, insomnia, and depression.
Optimum mood health isn't just about getting the right food, it can be about taking on board bad food (such as fast food e.g. donuuts) and pollutants. This can result in a build up toxins causing a toxic burden in the body that will affect the brain and result in disturbances to mood.
There are many reasons why you may be feeling 'low', and here is just a few examples:
Food Allergy
Stress
Poor digestive health
Imbalanced male hormones and female hormones
Toxic burden
Thyroid imbalances
Candida
All of the above are influenced by diet and lifestyle and all can then influence mental health. To see which factors may be influencing your health please complete the personal health questionnaire. If you have already completed this then please refer back to your key top 10 health factors.
